Chỉ lẽ bù trừ: đã có một ưu thế mạnh mẽ thì thường phải thiếu hoặc kém ở mặt khác, khó thể chiếm hết mọi phần hơn. Cũng dùng để nhắc người ta đừng quá dữ dằn, ghê gớm; ở dị bản này, hình ảnh “hàm trên” nhấn vào sự thiếu hẳn một bộ phận đi kèm với cái mạnh đã có.

It expresses the idea of compensation: if one has a strong advantage in one respect, one is usually lacking something in another and cannot possess every advantage at once. It can also warn against being too fierce or overbearing; in this variant, the image of the “upper jaw” stresses the absence of one feature alongside the presence of another.
